Shiatsu FAQs

Many people who have never experienced a Shiatsu Treatment don’t know what to expect.

Here are some commonly asked questions and answers.

Q. Does Shiatsu require a complete body treatment?
A. Yes. The body works as an interrelated entity which cannot be separated into different sections. For this reason, the whole body is always treated.

Q. How often should I have a treatment?
A. In the beginning, weekly treatments are recommended. Monthly or twice monthly visits are excellent for keeping you in good health.

Q. I don’t have a problem. Should I have a treatment anyway? How will it help me?
A. Shiatsu is an excellent preventative to keep your body in good tune.

Q. How often do I need to take a Shiatsu treatment to reduce my overall body stiffness?
I recommend clients to take at least three consecutive treatments to promote substantial release of tension. Treatments are more effective if done on a weekly basis. Since your body is composed of layers of skin, muscle, tendons, organs and bone, each of these separate layers has to be dealt with in order to achieve maximum relief. Thus, it may take several sessions to get certain areas to release their tension and reduce stiffness substantially. Similarly, you should be aware that the greater and longer-term your energetic imbalance, the longer it may to recover.

Q. Should pregnant women be treated with Shiatsu therapy?
A. Yes. Shiatsu is perfectly safe and the treatment can relieve a lot of the discomfort associated with pregnancy.

Q. Is a Shiatsu Treatment painful?
A. No. You may feel that certain parts of your body are tender when touched, but it is never painful.

Q. Do Shiatsu therapists use any special equipment?
A. No. All the Shiatsu therapist uses is a clean, comfortable futon mat.

Q. Is Shiatsu good for relieving stress?
A. Yes. Shiatsu is particularly good for releasing stress and stress-related problems.
